face masks offer solace in pandemic, cdc says
Masks do little to prevent infection during the flu pandemic, but wearing masks may help comfort people. S.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
People who must take care of other people who are sick during the pandemic should wear a respirator
A specially designed form
The CDC said wearing a mask.
It acknowledges that no one has done research to show what the benefits of surgery are
In order to stop the spread of the virus, the mask will work.
Experts say the flu epidemic is inevitable.
No one can say when it will come, what kind of virus, but there are three major flu outbreaks in the last century.
The main suspects are H5N1 avian influenza virus infected with birds in parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.
It rarely infects people, but at least 172 of the 291 people who have confirmed the infection have died.
If it develops an ability from one person to another, it will infect tens of millions of people and possibly kill millions, who says.
It takes a few months to produce a good vaccine.
Many experts have been asking whether masks can help people protect themselves and whether they are worth storing now.
The CDC\'s answer? Maybe.
\"We also know that many people may choose to use masks for additional protection, even if there is no evidence to prove their effectiveness,\" said Dr. CDC director . \"
Julie Gerberding told reporters.
\"If people can\'t avoid crowded places, large parties or take care of people who are sick, using masks or breathing apparatus correctly and continuously can help protect people and reduce the spread of pandemic influenza.
\"Other measures that the CDC has recommended include washing hands, staying away from others and discouraging people.
Some experts believe that wearing a mask may give a false sense of security.
The CDC says masks can be useful in the following cases :-
If people get the flu, think they may have close contact with others
Within about 6 feet. —
If they live with a person with flu symptoms, or will stay in a crowded public place for a period of time, they may therefore be in close contact with the infected person. —
If someone must be in the crowd—
If people have to have a close contract with someone who is sick, they should use a respirator mask.
\"Masks are not designed to protect people from tiny particles such as viruses,\" the doctor said . \"
CDC infection control expert Michael Bell
\"Instead, masks help prevent people wearing masks from spreading potentially infectious water droplets.
They also prevent splashing or spraying when coughing and sneezing from touching the mouth and nose of people wearing masks.
